Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the center of Kyoto. Head southeast on Shijo-dori towards Higashiyama. Follow the signs for the Kyoto City Zoo and then take a right onto Maruyama Park Road. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Kiyomizu-zaka Street, where you'll see signs for Hōkan-ji. There is limited parking available near the temple, so be prepared to park in nearby public lots if necessary. Note that parking fees can range from 500 to 1000 yen per hour.

Public Transportation
To reach Hōkan-ji by public transportation, take the Kyoto City Bus number 100 or 206 from Kyoto Station. Disembark at the Gion bus stop. From there, walk towards the east along Shijo Avenue for about 10 minutes until you reach the entrance of Maruyama Park. Continue through the park and follow the signs towards Hōkan-ji, which is located at 388, Kiyomizu Yasaka Ue-cho, Higashiyama Ward. The total journey will take about 30 to 40 minutes. A one-way bus ticket from Kyoto Station costs around 230 yen.
