Great Island Common Park: A Seaside Retreat

Great Island Common Park, located in New Castle, New Hampshire, is a 32-acre seaside haven offering breathtaking views of the Piscataqua River and the Atlantic Ocean. The U.S. Army acquired the land in 1909 to house soldiers from the 22nd Coastal Artillery, later transferring it to the Town of New Castle in 1963 for park and recreation usage. Today, the park is home to Fort Constitution, a historic military fort dating back to the early 19th century. The park is open year-round from 9 am to 9 pm, offering a variety of activities such as shell and rock hunting, kite flying, fishing, and birdwatching. Visitors should note that there is an admission fee charged per carload from May 17th through Columbus Day/Indigenous People's Day.
