Driving
From Portsmouth, NH, follow Route 1B (Wentworth Rd) east towards New Castle. Continue on Route 1B, following signs for Great Island Common. After crossing the bridge onto New Castle Island, the park will be on your right. Parking is available within the park. Note that parking fees are charged per carload from mid-May through Columbus Day/Indigenous People's Day. The general admission fee is $4.00 for individuals aged 6 to 65.

From Portsmouth, you can take a taxi to New Castle for approximately $18 - $23. Alternatively, during certain times of the year, Wildcat Transit Route 4 provides service between Portsmouth and Durham-UNH campus via Newington. The base cash fare is $1.50. From Durham, you can connect to New Castle via taxi or ride-sharing service. Check the Wildcat Transit schedule for times and availability.

From downtown Portsmouth, it is approximately a 2.4-mile walk to New Castle. Follow the scenic waterfront route along the harbor. Cross the bridge onto New Castle Island and continue along Wentworth Road (Route 1B). Great Island Common will be on your right after entering New Castle. Be mindful of traffic as you walk along the road.
