The city accepted the gift in 1898, and the park was completed around 1900. A notable feature of Haven Park is the life-sized bronze statue of Maj. Gen. Fitz John Porter, a Portsmouth native and Civil War figure. The statue, dedicated in 1906, honors Porter's military achievements. Today, Haven Park remains a beloved spot for locals and tourists alike.
