Walking
Market Square is located in the heart of downtown Portsmouth and is easily accessible on foot from most nearby locations. From the Portsmouth waterfront, walk north on Bow Street, then turn left onto Market Street. Market Square will be on your left. From the Strawbery Banke Museum, walk north on Marcy Street, turn right onto State Street, and then left onto Market Street. Market Square will be on your right.
Public Transport
The COAST bus system serves Market Square. Several routes connect Market Square to other parts of Portsmouth and the surrounding Seacoast region. Check the COAST website for schedules and route information. A single fare is typically $1.50.
Taxi/Ride-Share
Taxis and ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft are readily available in Portsmouth. A short ride from Portsmouth's outskirts to Market Square typically costs between $10 and $15, but this is subject to change.
Parking
Several parking garages and lots are located near Market Square, including the Hanover Street Garage and the Foundry Place Garage. Metered street parking is also available, but can be limited, especially during peak season and events. Garage parking typically costs $2-3 per hour. Some private lots may charge special rates. A free shuttle runs from the Connect Community Church lot on Market Street to the Hanover Street bus stop adjacent to the High/Hanover Parking Garage. The shuttle runs every 10 minutes Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 1:30 a.m. and Sundays from noon to 11 p.m. until the end of the year. Through August, the shuttle also runs Thursdays from 4:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
