The initial paved road turns into a dirt and gravel path. Continue along the path, following the stone wall on your left. After a break in the stone wall, a faint trail climbs uphill to the castle ruins. The hike from Ano Potamia to Apano Kastro takes approximately 1-1.5 hours.

    To reach the trailhead for Apano Kastro using public transport, take the bus from Naxos Town (Chora) to Halki. From Halki, follow the road west towards Tsikalario. The outer walls once enclosed the base of the hill, providing refuge for the local population during raids. The inner citadel, located at the hilltop, features remains of a palace, churches, and cisterns carved into the rock.
