Walking
From the center of Higashiyama, head northwest towards Shijo Avenue. Walk along Shijo Avenue until you reach the intersection with Karasuma Avenue. Turn left on Karasuma Avenue and continue walking until you reach Nijo-dori Street. Turn right on Nijo-dori Street and continue straight for about 10 minutes until you see Nijo Castle on your left at 541 Nijojocho, Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto. The castle is well-signposted, and you should see its impressive gates as you approach.

Public Transport - Bus
From Higashiyama, locate the nearest bus stop and take the Kyoto City Bus number 12 or 101 towards Kyoto Station. Get off at Nijojo-mae bus stop. From there, it is just a short walk of about 5 minutes to Nijō Castle. Head east on Nijo-dori and you will see the castle entrance. A single bus fare is around 230 yen.
