Car
If you are driving from Down, head towards the A25 and take the M1 motorway towards Belfast. Once on the M1, follow signs for A1 towards Newry. After approximately 30 miles, merge onto the M8 towards Edinburgh. Continue on the M8 for about 70 miles until you reach the outskirts of Edinburgh. Follow the signs for the city center and then for Princes Street. There is limited street parking available, and you may also consider parking in one of the nearby car parks such as St. James Quarter, which charges around £2.50 per hour.

Public Transportation - Train
From Down, make your way to the nearest train station, which is Newry. Board a train heading to Edinburgh Waverley Station. The journey takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. Upon arrival at Waverley Station, exit the station and walk towards Market Street. Continue straight until you reach Princes Street. The gardens are directly accessible from the street, and the walk should take around 10 minutes.

Alternatively, you can take a bus from Down to Edinburgh. Check with the local bus service for schedules, as some services may require a transfer. Buses may take about 3 to 4 hours depending on traffic. Once you arrive in Edinburgh, disembark at the central bus station on St. Andrew's Square. From there, walk to Princes Street Gardens, which is about a 5-minute walk. Follow the main street until you see the entrance to the gardens.
