Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the center of Kyoto and head southeast on Route 1. Continue on Route 1 for about 3.5 km until you reach the intersection with Route 367. Turn left onto Route 367 and drive for approximately 1.5 km. Look for signs indicating Kiyomizu-dera, and follow the winding road for another 2 km. There will be a parking lot near the entrance to the temple, but note that parking costs around 600 yen per hour. Make sure to arrive early, as spaces fill up quickly, especially on weekends.

Public Transportation (Bus)
To reach Kiyomizu-dera by public transportation, head to Kyoto Station. From there, take the Kyoto City Bus #100 or #206 from Bus Stop D2. The bus ride will take approximately 20-30 minutes. Get off at the Kiyomizu-michi bus stop. From the bus stop, it is a 15-minute walk to the Niomon Gate. Follow the signs leading you along Kiyomizu-zaka street, which is lined with shops and restaurants, making the walk more enjoyable. The bus fare is around 230 yen, and buses run frequently.

Public Transportation (Train and Bus)
Alternatively, you can take the subway from Kyoto Station. Ride the Karasuma Line to Karasuma Oike Station and transfer to the Tozai Line. Get off at Higashiyama Station. From Higashiyama Station, take the Kyoto City Bus #100 or #206 towards Kiyomizu-dera. Get off at Kiyomizu-michi bus stop and walk about 15 minutes to the Niomon Gate. This option may take longer but gives you a chance to explore the area around Higashiyama.
