Getting There

Walking
From the Vatican Museums, exit the main entrance onto Viale Vaticano. Head east along Viale Vaticano until you reach Piazza San Pietro. From there, continue straight onto Via della Conciliazione. You'll want to walk towards the Ponte Sant'Angelo, which is a bridge leading to the other side of the river. Cross the bridge and follow the signs for Metro Line A at the Lepanto station. Once at Lepanto station, take the metro towards Anagnina and get off at the 'Termini' stop. At Termini, transfer to Metro Line B towards Laurentina and get off at 'Piramide'. From there, take the train at the Ostiense station towards Ostia Antica. The train ride will take about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Ostia Antica station, follow the signs to the archaeological site entrance.

Public Transport
After visiting the Vatican Museums, walk to the nearest bus stop, which is located on Viale Vaticano. Take bus number 46 towards 'Piazza Venezia' and get off at 'Ostiense'. From Ostiense, transfer to the train heading to 'Ostia Antica'. The journey will take approximately 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Ostia Antica station, follow the signage to the archaeological site entrance.

Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bicycle from one of the rental shops near the Vatican Museums. Head south on Viale Vaticano, then take a left onto Via di Porta Cavalleggeri. Continue straight until you reach the Tiber River, then follow the riverbank south towards Ostia. This route is scenic and takes you through beautiful parks and along the river. The total cycling distance is around 25 kilometers and may take about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Keep an eye out for signs directing you to Ostia Antica.
