Getting There

  • Walking

    From the Sistine Chapel, exit the chapel and head towards the main entrance of the Vatican Museums. Once you are outside, turn right and walk along Viale Vaticano. Continue straight for about 800 meters until you reach the intersection with Via di Porta Angelica. Turn left onto Via di Porta Angelica and continue walking. You will then reach the Tiber River. Once you reach the river, turn right and walk along Lungotevere in Augusta for about 1 kilometer. The Ara Pacis Museum will be on your left, just after crossing the bridge over the river.

  • Public Transport

    From the Sistine Chapel, exit and walk to the nearest bus stop, which is located on Viale Vaticano. Take bus number 81 towards 'Largo di Torre Argentina'. After about 10 minutes, get off at the stop 'Piazza Augusto Imperatore'. From there, walk down Via di Ripetta, which will lead you directly to Lungotevere in Augusta. The Ara Pacis Museum will be situated right where the street ends, on your right.
